Washington DC is the Place to Be

My semester in Washington is going by so quickly. The past two weeks I have had a lot of unique experiences. I have crossed some items off my bucket list, heard many influential speakers and learned a lot! I went to the International Spy Museum, which was really interesting. It cost twenty dollars though, which surprised me because most of DC’s museums are free. The museum had an interesting exhibit on James Bond. Also, the museum staff had us memorize our new “spy identities” that they would quiz us on throughout the tour. I wish I could have spent more […]

The Newseum!

Extra extra! My foreign policy class was able to go to the Newseum for free! First we had to sit through a presentation clearly intended for fifth graders, but it was a fair price for not paying an entrance fee. The museum was extremely comprehensive and definitely worth seeing for anybody planning a trip to D.C. We were able to see a range of headlines from diverse print publications; some are so old that the difference in dialect makes them almost incomprehensible. There is a also major section dedicated to 9-11, which displayed the front pages of all the major […]

John McCain, John Kerry, next is Obama (I am sure of it!)

I think my favorite part of DC is definitely all the people I get to meet. My professor has awesome connections, and everyday we are meeting someone knew that has accomplished great things in life. On Thursday we went to the State Department to talk to a guy that works in Counter-terrorism. In the middle of his lecture Secretary of State John Kerry just casually stopped by to say hello! We were all so shocked. Then because of my professor and his connections we got to eat in the State Department Cafeteria. For security reasons we always have to be […]

Politics and Prose…

…is the name of my new favorite bookstore. It is about a mile walk from my dorm and it has a cute little cafe in the basement, and each week they have speakers come in to talk on some really interesting topics. Hopefully soon I will have the time to go to one of them. I was so excited to find a new bookstore that I ended up buying three books and a GRE preparation guide (yikes!). Here is a summary of my week so far besides finding the bookstore Monday I didn’t have to go to my internship at […]

Class, Internship, and Sightseeing

Well…I made it through my first full week at American, and so far I love it! It started off with the first day of my internship at the Department of Justice.¬† First, I went to an orientation about the security of the building, and then I received¬†my badge (so official!) so that I will be permitted to get through the lobby in the morning. Two other people in the office grabbed lunch with me, and after that I got going on some homework. My foreign policy class has featured some really distinguished speakers so far including the deputy campaign manager […]
